What It's Like Being Part of The 12 - Part 2
To The Turner 12 Classes to Come:
Hey, guys! It’s Jeniece Madison, 2011 Turner 12 graduate. I am here to help you get suited and booted for an awesome and humbling experience no other organization in your schools can give you.
This list is part 2. To read part 1, click here.
I created this list of twelve things to help ensure your success and show you the fun you can have being in the T12. So, take heed of this list. I want nothing but the best from you all.
6. ALL DAY, EVERYDAY
Stay focused in school because distractions can get you in trouble and put you behind on your goals. So always pay attention all day, everyday. Otherwise, you might miss something in class that you may need later on.
5. NO grades below 80.0
Make it a habit to make good grades all the time. School gets better for you when you are determined to make good grades above 80.0. People are willing to make school easier for you by offering excellent educational resources, and in high school, they’ll offer scholarship dollars to you to go on to college.
4. “If you’re looking at me, you’re listening. And if you’re listening, you’ll learn something.”
This is an infamous Coach Carter quote. Coach does not quote this to you all the time because he likes attention…well, maybe. But what he really wants is for you to be respectful and pay attention to the speaker before you. They have taken time out of their day to come and speak to you about their experiences. The least you can do is listen and you never know what you’ll learn that can help you later.
3. Read. Read. And, most importantly, READ!!!
Reading makes you a better student. Not all reading is boring, and never use that excuse with Coach. Find a novel that sparks your interest or topic you want to learn more about. That way reading will becomes fun and something you want to do.
2. Not the “right” answer, but the “real” answer
The T12 is all about building character, and lying contradicts that. Practicing good habits while you are young will make your life easier now and in the future. So do good things and tell the truth.
1. Live The Creed
Our Creed is more than motivational. It's a lifestyle that breeds success:
Whatever you can vividly imagine,
Whatever you can sincerely believe,
Whatever you can ardently desire,
Whatever you can enthusiastically act upon will inevitably come to pass.
Use this to reach your goals and success will follow.
Out of love, I share these things with you because you twelve, are our future leaders. Love one another, cherish your youth, remember this list, and show Coach Carter that you appreciate him for sharing his life and love with you. This opportunity is free, and by the grace of God, you were chosen to be great.
God, Peace & Winterfresh Gum!
Your Sister,
Jeniece
